This year's Castle Point King (CPK) event brought back its vibrant energy and excitement! On a splendid Saturday evening in April, students gathered at the Canavan Arena to witness the spectacle. Hosted by Stevens' own sorority, Delta Phi Epsilon, CPK not only entertained and crowned the king of Castle Point but also honored graduating seniors from Delta Phi Epsilon while supporting a noble cause. Proceeds from CPK were dedicated to the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) and the Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation. ANAD, a non-profit organization, provides assistance and support to individuals battling eating disorders, alongside efforts to educate and prevent such disorders while contributing to research on their causes and treatments.
For those unfamiliar with CPK on campus, it is a male beauty pageant and talent showcase where contestants vie for the prestigious title of Castle Point King. Representing their fraternities, contestants prepare elaborate performances aligned with the theme of the event. Their efforts, showcased through shows, costumes, and short video clips, ultimately determine their success in the competition. CPK stands as a significant campus-wide event, drawing in numerous students each year with its captivating displays and spirited atmosphere.
This year, Sigep came prepared with a Barbie-themed performance. At the end of the night, we took home the crown, brandishing the Castle Point King title!
In a stunning encore performance, Dean Filippone of Sigma Phi Epsilon clinched the title of Mr. Heartthrob at the Alpha Phi Sorority's annual charity event for the second year running. Dean's victory not only showcased his exceptional talents but also contributed to Sigma Phi Epsilon's back-to-back triumph, solidifying their status as Mr. Heartthrob champions.
The event's first segment, "Rhyme without Reason," saw Dean don a whimsical ensemble themed "Ice Spice and 3 Blind Mice," bringing humor and creativity to the stage. This set the tone for an evening filled with entertainment and camaraderie.
Dean's versatility and musical prowess took center stage during the talent show, where he delivered a captivating performance on multiple instruments. From the piano melodies of La La Land to the guitar solo of Eruption, the trumpet rendition of Industry Baby, the bass performance of Play That Funky Music, and the quirky Otamatone rendition of Time of my Life, Dean left an indelible mark on the audience.
Notably, Dean excelled in the interview segment, showcasing his intelligence and passion for the cause, further contributing to his overall victory. His performance earned him the title of Mr. Heartthrob 2024. In addition, Sigma Phi Epsilon's is the chapter that raised the most funds for women's heart health.
What makes this victory even more remarkable is that Dean Filippone's win follows Sigma Phi Epsilon's success in the previous year, with Taylan Mansur claiming the Mr. Heartthrob title. Dean's triumph has now established a tradition of excellence for Sigma Phi Epsilon, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to making a positive impact on their community and contributing to the awareness of women's heart health.
As Sigma Phi Epsilon basks in the glory of this back-to-back victory, they not only celebrate the individual achievements of their talented members but also reaffirm their dedication to supporting meaningful causes and fostering a sense of unity within the fraternity.
In an era where leadership and innovation stand at the forefront of success, the members of our Executive Board recently embarked on an enlightening journey to the Sigma Phi Epsilon National Leadership Program, known as the Carlson Leadership Academy. This experience not only offered us a chance to refine our leadership skills but also provided a unique platform to exchange ideas and foster a spirit of collaboration among Sigma Phi Epsilon chapters nationwide.
The Carlson Leadership Academy is designed to equip Sigma Phi Epsilon members with the tools and insights necessary to lead with integrity, empathy, and vision. Through a series of workshops, seminars, and networking events, our Executive Board members were immersed in a learning environment that challenged them to think critically about the essence of effective leadership within the fraternity and beyond.
One of the most impactful aspects of the academy was the opportunity to learn from seasoned leaders who have mastered the art of guiding others towards a common goal.
